My Skin Is My Glory

A woman posing for a nude watercolor portrait
"I never had a great relationship with my body, which might be why I'm so obsessed with jewellery and body art as a 'distraction' from my flaws.

When I was a child I was too skinny and then I got fat in the space of a two year growth spurt.

My breasts have brought me a lot of shame. Not only because of how they look, but because they've been used to justify my abuse.

I also don't have big enough hips for an African woman.

But my skin? My skin glows with a rich brown that is mesmerising. My skin is my glory and it washes me with pride immeasurable. I thank God for making me beautiful."
