I Am More Than It

"Throughout my childhood and to this day, I have been constantly, cruelly and outright shamelessly body shamed for being “too fat” and “too short”. By who? Supposed friends, relatives, juniors in school, teachers, parents’ colleagues. None of whom know ANYTHING about my body. None of whose comments I care about anymore.
I still struggle to come to terms with how my belly pushes out over tight jeans and how I always seem to have to alter blouses to fit in my upper arms. But I’m also learning that just because I struggle to like my body on most days, doesn’t mean I can’t love it. I am so grateful for being in good health so far and for it not hating me back even on the days I have treated it so badly.
I love my body, but I am more than it."
